On 26th November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted/enacted the Constitution of India, which came into force/implemented on 26th January 1950.

● Constitution Day is also celebrated as “National Law Day”.

● The idea of dedicating a day to the adoption of the Constitution was proposed by the Modi Government in 2015 in recognition of the contributions of the Constituent Assembly in drafting our Constitution.

Our original Constitution had 22 parts, 395 articles, and 8 schedules. At present, the Constitution has 25 parts, 12 schedules and approximately 470 Articles. It is one of the longest written constitutions in the world, emphasizing justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
