Firstly, the candidate should be a citizen of India. Non-citizens are not allowed to take part in the Bihar Judiciary Examination.
Secondly, the candidate must age between 22 to 35 years. Candidates outside this age window can not appear for the Bihar Judiciary examination.
Lastly, you need to have a certified degree of Law from a recognized university. Candidates having degree from a non-recognized university would not be eligible to appear for the Bihar Judiciary Examination.
The Bihar Judiciary Examination Pattern
It is important to be aware about the pattern of the examination as the more clarity one has about the pattern, the more strategically can one approach the exam .
The Bihar Judiciary Examination is conducted through the following three stages –
STAGE 1 – Preliminary Exams (Objective Exam)
STAGE 2 – Mains Exams (Written)
STAGE 3 – Interview (Viva Voce)
Each stage is subject to the marks obtained in the previous stage. The more marks obtained in each stage, the more chance for the candidate to be selected in the interview.

The Bihar Judiciary Preliminary Examination Syllabus
The Bihar Judiciary examination has a very expansive syllabus which requires thorough preparation and repeated practice of the format and the model answers so as to be well equipped with the manner in which the exam is supposed to be attempted.
The Bihar Judiciary Preliminary Examination Syllabus consists of the following subjects –
Part 1 -
• General Knowledge and current affairs
• Elementary General Science
Part 2 –
• Law of Evidence and Procedure
• Constitutional and Administrative Law of India
• Hindu Law and Mohammedan Law
• Law of Transfer of Property, Principles of Equity
• Law of Trusts and Specific Relief
• Law of Contracts and Torts
• Commercial Law
These two papers of the Bihar Judiciary Preliminary Examination combine for a total of 250 Marks. The questions are MCQ based.
Part 1 focuses on the general knowledge of the candidate on everyday events whereas Part 2 aims to test the legal knowledge of the candidate in the major aspects of law.
This stage sets the bar for the judiciary to filter out the prospective candidates from the ones which might not be a good fit.
Upon successful completion of the Preliminary round, the candidate is permitted to proceed to the next round which is the mains examination.
The Bihar Judiciary Mains Examination Syllabus –
The Bihar Judiciary Mains Examination is divided into 2 parts.
1. Compulsory Papers
2. Optional Papers
The candidate must select 3 subjects which will be termed to be qualifying in nature for the Bihar Judiciary Mains Examination.
General Hindi and General English are two of the five required subjects that are of qualifying nature for the Bihar Judiciary Mains.
The Mains exams are the most expansive part of the whole exam as it is the longest written part of the exams which also requires a strategic and calculative approach. The mains exams test the in depth legal knowledge of candidates and only upon its clearance can the candidate be considered for the interview stage.
Subject to qualification in the Bihar Judiciary Mains Examination, the candidate can proceed to the Bihar Judiciary Interview.
The Bihar Judiciary Interview Examination –
After the candidates have successfully cleared the Preliminary and Main, they shall be invited for an interview by the senior judges in order to test their moral and judicial knowledge.
The interview is conducted for a total of 100 marks and atleast 35% of score is needed in order to take the seat.
