CURRENT EVENTS 12-10-2022

1. Most Senior Supreme Court Judge, Justice D. Y. Chandrachud will be the next (50th) Chief Justice of India. His tenure will be of two years. Chief Justice of India UU Lalit has recommended his name as the new CJI to the Union Government. He will be appointed by President. President will affirm him the oath of office on 9th Nov 2022. His father Justice Y. V. Chandrachud has also held the post of CJI. It is a practice that the outgoing CJI recommends his successor’s name one month before his retirement.

2. The Election Commission of India allotted a “two swords and shield” election symbol to the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena (Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena).
