India’s First Private Orbital Rocket and Skyroot’s Infinity Campus
● On November 27, 2025 Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Skyroot Aerospace’s Infinity Campus in Hyderabad, Telangana.
● The Infinity Campus is a state of the art 200,000 square feet facility for designing, developing, integrating and testing launch vehicles. The campus has the capacity to build one orbital rocket every month boosting India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat defense and space goals.
● PM Modi unveiled Vikram-I, India’s first privately developed orbital rocket capable of launching satellites into Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
● Vikram-1 made by the Skyroot Aerospace is designed to carry payloads of around 300 kg to LEO. It is a four stage rocket with an all carbon fiber body and can place multiple satellites into orbit simultaneously. It also features 3D printed liquid engines and its ability to be assembled and launched within 24 to 72 hours offering customers rapid access to space.
● The Vikrams series is named for Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, founder of the Indian Space Program and is in development to capture the multi million dollar small satellite launch market. The rockets are developed with the aim of providing multi orbit insertion and interplanetary mission capability to not just India but also foreign customers.
● Skyroot Aerospace was founded by Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Dhaka, former ISRO scientists and IIT alumni.
● In November 2022, Skyroot Aerospace launched its sub orbital rocket Vikram-S becoming the first Indian private company to launch a rocket to space.
● This development marks a major leap for India’s private space sector, contributing to the country’s growing global leadership in space technology.
● The private space ecosystem in India now includes over 300 startups driven by youth (Gen Z), innovation and entrepreneurship.
